Healing Comes Slow

February 18, 2020

Since the day you went away, healing comes slow.
I know what needs to happen, but I have a long way to go.
Before I can recover, I must first feel the pain.
It will take time, as the hurt remains.

I am stronger because you were in my life.
You’d smile through your pain and strife.
I needed to feel your pain and the strength you showed.
As I fought back the constant tears that flowed.

I am not healed yet, there is more pain to feel.
Before it gets better, I must face what is real.
Some day I will not hurt so much,
But today I still miss your gentle touch.

As pain gives way to memory, then healing will begin.
Memories help me hold onto you once again.
I cannot forget what hurt you bore,
But one day a smile will be restored.

When I can remember your smile through pain.
Then I will heal with just the mention of your name.
No longer will your name bring only tears,
Your name will help me face all my fears.
